It's a gothic revival mishmash from the last century, original silk wallpaper and settees intact. Beautiful and remote, isolated from the city of Gotham by couple of miles and a large parcel of land, the house and grounds are well-maintained, if a little overgrown and silent.
The interior is mostly dark woods, expensive silver, plush furniture and oil paintings imported from Europe. The West wing in particular, however, was updated for the new millenium, including a good strong wifi connection in most rooms and gorgeous modern kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The bones of the old house, though, remain intact.
If asked, the servants will insist that Blake's - Mr. Thorne's - father was the one who ordered the long overdue renovation before he passed away, and that the house has been in the family for years. Built with a hideaway priest hole despite the fact that the reign of Henry VIII was roughly two hundred and fifty years before the first brick was laid, it is an elegant and eccentric exercise in nouveau riche grandeur from another era.
The East wing was boarded off until very recently, considering that the house's sole permanent occupant hardly needed the second wing to live in. It has now been cleaned and dusted, and the dropcloths folded and put away. The fixtures in the East wing were updated less recently, and the pipes may rattle a little, and the rooms may be a little cold, and there may be a sense of foreboding in some of its most quiet corners.
